On December 16th Stephine turned 25 and was allowed to leave the hospital for the first time in 2 months. Walking with her walker and in regular clothes she was able to visit her her work unit in the university hospital and the nurses who treated her in the ICU. What a surprise it was for them to see her doing so well. Stephnies biggest achievement thus far also occurred on her birthday. She was able to walk a few steps by herself with no assistance from the walker. She will continue with rehabilitation until she is strong enough to go home and then begin chemo and radiation. On December 18th Stephine underwent a second surgery on her throat for her vocal cords as well as to improve her swallowing ability. Stephine is currently back in the ICU for monitoring, however in stable condition. When she is deemed medically stable she will continue with therapy at the rehab facility
