On June 23rd, I was told that one of our community had passed away. I wasnt familiar with the individuals name; but today when I read the Newport News-Times I realized who my friends of Yachats were speaking of... David Schlesinger. He is one of those individuals that I didnt have the pleasure of knowing; but he none-the-less impacted my life. For a number of years, I would see his automobile parked on 3rd Street in Yachats so that he could take his beloved dog for a walk. On occasion we would share a friendly hello, as I was parking to go into the Yachats Ladies Club. In 2007, he stopped one day to lend a hand with the remodel of the Yachats Ladies Club, which was greatly appreciated. He was a familiar presence and I often spotted his car parked here and there, so as to walk his dog. I feel an unexpected sense of grief for our loss of such a special person. In our village of Yachats, our lives intertwine on a daily basis. Whether we know each others name is not often important, but the smile and hello that is shared makes a unique difference. I hope we will each take a little extra time to greet someone this week and perhaps express to them what a difference they make in our life. Thinking of you this day, David.
