On October 7, 1775, at the beginning of the American Revolutionary War, the British bombed the port of Bristol, Rhode Island for the first time, doing minimal damage. The Bombardment of Bristol sung by Sam Hinton recounts the event. It is among the songs from the Revolution that encourage the fight for independence by making light of British military efforts. The town was attacked again in May 1778 with more serious results. Image: A drawing of Bristol Neck, Rhode Island, in 1765. Artist unknown.
