On Saturday October 4, 2014, over 118 cities worldwide will hold the Global March for Elephants and Rhinos, to raise awareness of the current plight of Elephants & Rhinos headed for extinction due to poaching and other human-induced conflicts. While more than 70% of the African Elephants have been killed for ivory during the last decade, the Sri Lankan Elephants are facing loss of habitat, cruel Hakka Patas that blow up their mouths, and recently kidnappings. Therefore, please participate in this event and help us raise awareness among Sri Lankan public and especially the decision makers. It is an ideal opportunity for the volunteers living in Colombo and Suburbs, especially those who have not been able to participate in our field projects. Date / Time: Saturday October 4, 2014 @ 9am Where: Henry Pedris Stadium, 109/1B, Havelock Road, Colombo 5 The tentative route proposed for the peaceful March is as follows: Starting point at 9:00 a.m.: Henry Pedris Grounds—via Havelock Road--Thunmulla--Galle Road--Kollupitiya--Dharmapala Mawatha–Town Hall--Vihara Maha Devi Park Open Air Theatre The event in Colombo is organized by the Centre for Eco-Cultural Studies.
