On Saturday we said goodbye to Trinity College from Connecticut. They were our fourth Immersion Group this month. This group was special to Gretchen since she comes from Connecticut and she knew one of the leaders. They were special to me as well because they had some students who had similar stories from our people and come from humble families. The Immersion stories touched them greatly, but their stories touched me more. What a great group of young leaders! It gives me hope for the future as I know that there are people out there who care for the immigrants and will be a voice for them. I also met two sisters who were the leaders of the group. They are amazing women. One an episcopal priest and the other one who has been involved in justice and women issues for a long time. It was a great group to finish four very busy weeks. I hope they come back next year. Our small church reaches beyond El Paso/Juarez. We educate groups about border issues, and on welcoming the stranger through a faith perspective. But the groups teach a lot as well! This affirms my call in this place, Cristo Rey “Milagro de la Frontera”.
