On The Whole Nine Yards on seahavenfm Thursday 11th September 7-9pm: Songs set in the future It’s a case of return to the future this week as we revisit songs that are set in the future or commentate on a future dominated by technology. There was a real interest in the future, space travel and life in other dimensions back in the early seventies and both David Bowie and Elton John used the concept of the future to write great contemporary rock songs – ‘Star Man’ and ‘Rocket’ man respectively. The idea of predicting the future was really started back in 1969 with Zagar & Evans ‘In the Year 2525’ and some people have been very interested in the idea ever since, Damon Albarn and Blur with ‘The Universal’, Muse on lots of their material, Rush and of course Kraftwerk whose ’Computer Love’ was the start of a genre that nowadays includes the likes of Daft Punk and we will be playing their futuristic romantic lament ‘The Game of Love’ from Random Access Memories’. Fittingly, There will be new music as well, notably St. Vincent’s ‘Digital Witness’ a vitriolic attack on the world seen through screens. If you have a futuristic hit email me at roy.stannard@seahavenfm
