On a 20/30/40 Lb. propane tank, what does an OPD (over fill - TopicsExpress

On a 20/30/40 Lb. propane tank, what does an OPD (over fill prevention device) look like from inside? Below is a picture of a tank with an OPD. Waltlou or call: 540-373-0850, open EVERYDAY, we take credit/debit, we sell propane parts and tanks. Located on route 1, just 1.5 miles north of the Falmouth Bridge When the propane tank is filled and the propane level rises to the float, (part of the OPD), the float engages a shut off, that prevents further propane from being pumped into the tank. A propane tank should never be filled all the way up,(only old tanks can be filled all the way up because they are not outfitted with an OPD, and are illegal to refill), because propane needs room to expand. When the temperature rises, propane expands, and without room to expand, the valve will release propane. You dont want this to happen, and this is another reason why it is not safe to transport tanks inside of your car or leave tanks in your car where the temperature is far higher, especially when sitting in the sun. If a person ever claims that they fill the tank all the way up, that only means they fill it until the tank will not take any more propane, which is anywhere from 17-17.5 lb., and also the proper amount to fuel a propane tank as well. BEWARE OF TANK EXCHANGES: Tank exchanges used to put 17 Lb. in their tanks, but now they dropped down to only pumping 15 Lb. in their tanks, which is only ¾ of a tank, and at least ½ a gallon less then what they had put in just a few years ago. Also, prices have not gone down at tank exchanges, but have gone up. You are far better off find a good, safe tank, and having it refilled, and you save significant money and get far more by using a filling satin like Waltlou Propane, instead of a tank exchange, that many times gives you a tank that has issues, and you never know exactly how much or how little propane is in the tank. Waltlou or call: 540-373-0850. Waltlou is open EVERYDAY, we accept credit/debit cards. Tanks and propane parts sold. Feel free to come by and ask us questions concerning your tank or set up, and we will try to assist you. Thank you for your business!!!
