On recent posts regarding American politics or government: Some here point out that we need to avoid the paradigms set by the American political process. I understand that point and I understand that this movement seeks to build a consensus among the people of this area to consider ourselves a united bioregion. To think in terms of our environment and ability to be self-sufficient and sustainable are important. Though what is ironic is that some of these same people repeat the rhetoric given by, say, the Tea Party. To me, that seems counterproductive to our goals. I also think its misplaced emotion to seek to undermine the credibility of our current President. I think its absolutely appropriate to criticize the administration, but the issue isnt Obama, but the entire state-provincial-federal apparatus. Just a simple suggestion: I think it would be more productive of this movement to not only build a coalition of those who think of our homes as CASCADIA, but also present a model to those people as a working alternative than the current state-provincial-federal model that is not accountable to its constituents. Concurrent to having a discussion on building a common identity should be a discussion on what Cascadia would look like as a possible nationstate.
