On the subject of paint or dont paint. We are the second owners of our mid century rambler. Our living room definitely had painted paneling when we bought it. Pink, to be specific. We repainted it red and it looks great. But we did not repaint the dining room, which now looks like crap. The dark chips on an outside corner made me wonder whether the faux wainscoting was really just trim over wall board, so I removed an outlet cover, and a huge chunk of paint came off with it. (Why do people paint over those things?) I now have to decide whether to strip and reveal the wood, or repaint. I am leaning toward using a heat gun and gently scraping off the existing paint, since it was clearly prepped poorly. The beauty of a wood finish is that you can nearly always fix whats wrong with it. Paint, however, gets used up, and eventually there is no saving it. :)
