On the very night that Im proudly attending and distributing awards at the New Dorp High School Air Force JROTC ceremony, Queens Councilman Daniel Dromme says he wants to abolish ROTC programs in NYC schools because they promote a war machine mentality among students. Anyone with half a clue knows full well that these programs are about civic duty, patriotism, and leadership. Claiming that they somehow promote a war machine mentality is absolutely ridiculous and shows total ignorance of the real work of JROTC programs. I will fight tooth-and-nail against any attempt to abolish JROTC programs in NYC schools. I’m proud to support JROTC activities and I’d encourage anyone who shares these radical misconceptions to join me at any one of their many ceremonies and civic functions throughout the year.
