On this day in 1959 The second of a two day recording session for Capitol Records. Judy recorded the concept album The Letter wiht Gordon Jenkins and his orchestra, with John Ireland providing the romantic narrative. The Letter took the theme idea as presented in Judys Alone album one step further and presented a melodrama-in-song by Judy with narration by John Ireland. Ireland read The Letter (a copy of which was pasted to the cover of the original album release) between Judys songs. Obviously the songs reflected the plot. This was an interesting concept that works well in spite of some rather banal material for the narration. The LP was originally released in the gatefold format on May 4, 1959; it would be reissued as Our Love Letter on September 3, 1963. It was released on March 13, 2007. The CD release includes the singles versions of the songs Beautiful Trouble; Thats All There Is, There Isnt Any More; The Worst Kind of Man; and The Red Balloon.
