On this day in 1980 John Lennon was shot three times outide of his residence at The Dakota in New York City. He was pronounced dead a half hour later. Mark Chapman, a deranged fan, met Lennon earlier that day and has his copy of Lennons latest album, Double Fantasy, autographed. Chapman made no attempt to flee but remained at the scene reading The Catcher In The Rye. Chapmans attorneys attempted to make an insanity defense but Chapman wouldnt allow it and pleaded guilty. Others that were on Chapmans list was Johnny Carson, Walter Cronkite, Marlon Brando, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, George C Scott and Elizabeth Taylor however he said Lennon was the easiest one to contact. Chapman showed his wife a gun and bullets and told her of his intent to kill Lennon. She never informed the police or mental health authorities. She was not ever charged with any crimes. To date, Chapman has been denied parole eight times and is currently residing Wende Correctional Facility in upstate New York. #MarkChapman #JohnLennon https://youtube/watch?v=iAJ2AoEwDvY
