Once upon a time my uncle was wrongly paid another employees - TopicsExpress

Once upon a time my uncle was wrongly paid another employees salary in addition to his (as he was going on pension) by his employer, SA Railway Services. When they realised, two months later, they called him to the office and demanded that he returned the money. He pleaded that it was not his fault because he was illiterate and he trusted the educated manager and clerk who processed the money. I assisted him to prove that he could only offord to repay it at the rate of R10:00 per month from his pension bcos he had two kids at university. The total amount was R560.60. They agreed. It took forever to repay and he died b4 he finished. I am reminded of this by the Nkandla report where we are told Mr pres saw that his housee and entire compound was being renovated and his neighbours houses were demolished and rebuild without his involvement. He saw nothing, he knew nothing and he did nothing. Okay, fine he was not found guilty but he and his family and future gnerations benefitted from the entire upgrading. So he must indeed pay as the PP duly recommended, even if that goes on for the remainder of his life. That was the verdict in my uncles case too.
