One of the best parts of an adventure in the desert is the feeling of solitude in a vast expanse of wildlands. At night the field of stars that wraps across the horizon is an extra treat for those that venture far enough into the desert to escape the light pollution of big cities. This sense of escape is one of many reasons we should protect the wild places that also host the biodiversity we depend upon for a healthy environment. Many thanks to David Winn for this photo.
