One of the big contributors to the climate change problem is the massive, illegal deforestation that has been going on all over Mexico. This has happened because of corrupt politicians and drug cartels. The existance of the Monarch Butterfly is in doubt because of illegal logging in the forest they migrate to in the winter. In Chiapas the Zapatistas have been on the frontlines because they protect the forests they are in control of. I never hear much about this from the climate change activists here in the US but they should pay some attention to it and pressure the Mexican government to do something about it and also stop attacks on the Zapatistas.
