One of the main reasons that we started was to help animals that no one else could or would. We have taken in perfectly healthy animals, we have taken in animals that require amputations, we have taken in puppies with parvo, puppy strangles, mange, and anything else you could possibly think of. The reasons that we choose to take in an animal always varies. It could be because they do have health issues, it could be that the animal is fairly healthy but it is in a very bad situation, or it could be that it is a pure emergency and if we do not help the animal will not make It. Its all very situational. This is why we simply cannot take in animals from hey I cant keep my dog anymore....or hey I dont have enough time for my dog and now I need a rescue to take it type situations. I truly wish that we could take in every animal that we are contacted about, however...we simply cannot. I also wanted to touch on the fact that we do take in a lot of sad cases. We sometimes take in cases that we truly do not know if we can save or not. And we do take in animals that have potential for issues with medical concerns. Most of the time we dont get the full story on what exactly is going on with an animal when we do take it and it ends up being much worse than originally thought. We have went above and beyond to try to save every animal that we has come into our care, but there are some cases (like Ricco and Duncan) that you just cant do anything other than love them and give them peace. If you are not familiar with our protocol for an animal that we have to let pass...we always have them cremated and we get them each a special urn. Then, they remain at Camp PPR or if they had a foster they will get their ashes. Some do not agree with this practice, but when we take an animal in we have an unspoken promise to that animal until they are either adopted or until they pass and that is what we feel is the right thing to do. With that being said, we have a lot of urns and in our own way we have given them their forever homes. I think the best way that I have ever heard it put was from Amanda Giese of Panda Paws Rescue...(in so many words) Sometimes I feel like the grim reaper of rescue. That is all too often how we feel, truly. Sometimes it feels like all we ever have is loss...but then we happen upon a miraculous case and it reminds us why we do what we do. So, even though many of our stories are sad and even though many of the cases we take in just cant be won the way we would like....we still cherish getting to know each soul that crosses our path. Just like Ricco, we knew when we took him in that he would be a hospice case. Even though we knew he couldnt be saved (because you obviously cant fix heart failure) we didnt think that suffering and dying in a shelter after being dumped there by your family was the right way to go. So, he will be another case that breaks our hearts...and we are okay with that because we love him and he deserves his last days to be peaceful and loved. The point of this post is to share with you why we choose the animals we do, and why we do the things that we do as well as to share with you what we go through with each case we take in. Everyone keep our animals in your thoughts and give your animals an extra hug tonight! There are so many ways to help us as well. If you want to donate there are numerous ways include PayPal to pitifulpawsrescue@hotmail, you can volunteer your time, use Amazon smile when purchasing items on Amazon and we will get a percentage from each purchase, you can send things via our Amazon wish list, you can get a foodfair community card for us, and many more ways! We appreciate everyone that follows our page and we appreciate everyone that donates, shares, posts, comments, and helps us out in any way shape or form.
