One rare question that I get asked regarding insurance: I noticed - TopicsExpress

One rare question that I get asked regarding insurance: I noticed the insurance company pays you well below your asking fee. Can I pay the difference? The answer is: No, I cannot accept the difference from the client since I am in-network and agreed to the fees they (insurance company) set. If I accept the difference from a client, Im then committing insurance fraud. Some of the responses I get from clients after they hear that are funny like, Theyre the ones committing fraud. Who can live off what they pay you?!, But youre worth more than they pay. and my favorite, You need a better lobbyist. What I find disruptive, tho, to the therapeutic process is how it emotionally impacts my clients. They then start to worry about me. I have to reassure them Ive chosen to take insurance. But it does add a 3rd party into an otherwise confidential relationship. Tomorrow, Ill talk about the difference btwn PPO, HMO, and EAP.
