One thing the Indo-Pak, Bengali communities are known for is their strong family ties. Growing up, through observation I realized, that although many Bengali parents were not practicing the Deen properly, the fathers n mothers were almost always involved in the childrens lives directly. Sure, the South Asians tend to emphasize a lot on dunya (academic education) and not much on Deen (generally speaking). But my main point is that both parents majority of times are very involved, family ties are strong. Whereas in the Somali communities based on my observation and I know many Somali brothers who can testify to what im saying...too many fathers lack involvement in the childrens lives. Far too many divorces and no direct involvement in the upbringing of the children. A lot of times sadly, its the hooyos that are the backbones of the families n the fathers are absent whether intentionally or unintentionally. Its a serious problem and if its not tackled thoroughly then the saga will just continue with many youth desensitized to the problems n shooing them away as though its just a fly on the arm.
