One year ago today we lost our sweet Fawnzie Faith Fullerton (the cover photo) suddenly to bloat. Her story was that someone had her all her 10 years...and then she got old and sick. When the owners 17 month old child jumped on her severely arthritic back she reacted, not hurting the child but warning her. Shortly thereafter she was taken to the Humane Society. Old, seriously mobility challenged, sick with an infection, she was now without the only family she had known. When the Humane Society called me I went to see her. She was so stressed she was almost shocky. I agreed to pick her up on Friday after her vet check. Friday morning the vet deemed her too far gone and strongly urged euthanasia as the kind thing to do. But the person who took her said no, that Faith, as she was known, had a home and asked him to do what he could to make her comfortable. When I picked her up that afternoon they told me it was unlikely she would make it through the weekend. But the newly named Fawnzie and I had a different idea. We decided to live life to the fullest for whatever time we had. And boy, did we! She was extremely fragile but equally determined. With some real food, $200. a month in supplements, a bunch of homeopathics and a tiny bit of Prednisone plus all kinds of therapy Miss Fawnzie Faith had 5 more months of fun, adventure, constant attention, soft beds, warm hugs and kisses, and mostly LOVE. She was one of the dearest souls weve ever had the pleasure to have known. Her passing spun us into a pit of grief that we may never fully recover from. She gave us way more than we gave her. We miss you, sweet Fawnzie.
