Online gaming & 10 year olds. We got an Xbox for the 10 year old with a condition that he has two months to prove himself before we consider allowing him to take part in online gaming. The 9 year old has a laptop with a game called movie star planet & chats to her friends but I need to get clued up. Firstly, online gaming/interaction scares the hell out of me for obvious reasons but also for the reasoning that I dont know if I could trust the 10 year old not to be naively cocky on their whilst interacting with his mates and getting himself into trouble (its what 10 year old do right?) I dont want them to get left behind with evolving times.. I dont know where to start with online safety and these are the first steps to letting them have a certain amount of free reign in their own virtual worlds. Ive drawn the line at letting them have the requested FB, Instagram etc... Id appreciate some un judgemental & honest discussions & views on these topics. (Screen time is another issue that Ill be putting into place to avoid them losing the art of everyday communication because in my view screen do affect them)
