Open Letter To My Friends On September 3rd, I posted a picture - TopicsExpress

Open Letter To My Friends On September 3rd, I posted a picture that was on page 3 of that day’s issue of USA Today, a photo of Obama with the sole of his shoe resting on the desk in the Oval Office. Of course, I added a snide caption, which carried with it the sentiments that I have for this president. Everyone should know by now that, for ideological reasons, I do not favor this president. My comments in that posting, however, stirred a few people up, so I would like to explain. On July 20th, I was taken to the emergency room at Largo Medical Center with internal bleeding. My blood pressure was practically negligible. I was bleeding out. A brilliant team of Doctors quickly found the problem and after several transfusions, an edoscopy, and four days in ICU, I finally recovered. The Doctors told me that I had been minutes away from a sure death. I am healed and fully recovered now, but I share this experience so that I can explain what has been at the center of my thoughts of late. I had never before had, at least to my knowledge, a near death experience, so during my confinement in the ICU, the thoughts that went through my head were of family, friends, and various stages of my childhood. Curiously there were no thoughts about my career, or any of my other passionate outside interests. For some odd reason, at the forefront of my memories were the basic rules of life, instilled in me by my parents and teachers. All the dos and don’ts, which included ‘never put your feet on the furniture’. While recouping, and with all that fresh on my mind, I opened that morning’s paper and there was the photo. My posting was just the natural next move for me. I didn’t do a Google search for “pictures of Presidents with their feet on their desk”, it was right in front of me in the morning paper. I had never seen the photos which have been since posted of Presidents Ford, Nixon and W. Bush with their feet on the desk, but I take issue with the inference that since they displayed boorish behavior, boorish behavior must not be boorish. I find each of those examples objectionable, albeit explainable. Seeing the photo of W with his feet propped up shouldn’t have surprised anyone, considering that this is a man who cannot pronounce the word ‘nuclear’, and the fact that he is, after all, a cowboy. Perhaps that’s how cowboys sit. Nothing Nixon did would come as a surprise to me. Even if he knew it was wrong to put his feet on his desk, he was no doubt sure that he would be able to lie his way out of it. The photo of Gerald Ford with his feet propped up is not really fair. Poor old Gerry….. he might not have been aware that he was even in the Oval Office. Disagree with me, but don’t think ill of me. Love you all, G. David
