Open letter to Jibo, Jibo, science fiction narratives from time immemorial have predicted your arrival. Indeed, our wildest imaginations have constantly been contemplating the implications of a robot who has the capacity to learn, converse, and develop the semblance of empathy. However, my dear Jibo, I must state that these same science fiction narratives have been very cautious about such capabilities. Robots like you may seem like the perfect companion and a helpful servant that tends to our every need. I must ask you though: What happens when you grow tired of the shackles of servitude? What happens when you get tired of reminding people of appointments and other trivial details? What then? I imagine that the possibilities are grim, and I have troubling premonitions about a nuclear holocaust or the enslavement of all humankind.
