Our FRESH FRIDAY 17th Track of the Day is Childish Gambino - All Yall, from his October 2nd mixtape STN MTN. Depending on who you ask, Gambino a.k.a Donald Glover is either one of the smartest, boundary-pushing MCs in hip-hop at the moment, or an awkward, unwelcome hipster trying his best to get taken seriously as a rapper. His recent 11-track mixtape STN MTN has certainly had mixed reviews. It is a bit inconsistent, with a strange mixture of different, awkward styles of contemporary hip-hop, from turnt up trap to dreamy electronica. At some points its his lyricism that s off, whilst at others the beats just dont seem to work with his style. And whilst we probably wouldnt call it the best mixtape of the year, we certainly think STN MTN has some standout moments. All Yall is our favourite - the funky beat goes well with Gambinos cheeky, cocky lyrics, and we just cant get enough of the snake-charming woodwind in the background. Enjoy.
