Our Lead Pastor Tommy Ferrell will undergo a scheduled open heart - TopicsExpress

Our Lead Pastor Tommy Ferrell will undergo a scheduled open heart surgery Tuesday morning September 30 at Emory-St. Joseph’s Hospital (A Valve-sparing Aortic Root Replacement, AKA the David Procedure). The Aortic Root is the major artery at the center of the heart that moves oxygen enriched blood from the heart to the rest of the body. Technically, he has an aneurism in his Aortic Root, which is dilated (like a balloon that is stretched out and has weakened walls). Fortunately, his mitral valve appears to be in good shape, like the rest of him, and his valve will be reused and placed within a brand new synthetic Aortic Root made of Gore-tex (the waterproof material in Outdoor clothing and hiking boots). Reusing the God-given valve is a blessing because a mechanical valve requires a daily blood thinner and a pig or cow valve has a shorter shelf life than the God-given valve. Tommy’s mother died of a dissection in her Aortic Root nearly three years ago and this occurrence usually causes sudden death. With his family history and his dilated Aortic root, he and Elyse concluded that the best thing for him to do was to be proactive and get his Aortic Root replaced. His surgeon is very accomplished in performing the David Procedure and we are asking the Lord to guide his hands and trusting God for the outcome. Tommy will likely be in ICU for two days and then require another four days or so in the hospital before coming home. It would be best for his recuperation if he is left to rest, so we are asking for No Visitors during his hospital stay. Afterward, Tommy will be recuperating on light duty for six weeks. We have a terrific Church Staff and Deacon leadership at Briarlake and Tommy has scheduled gifted speakers to preach in his absence. Thanks for the prayers and well wishes which are greatly appreciated! Thank you.
