Our cataloguing interns have started work on the Horst W. Drescher Collection, a collection of Scottish literature of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries which came to us recently. This binding caught my eye: a leaving book from Eton. These were customarily presented to boys leaving the school by their friends, and were generally rather elaborately bound, but often showing an adolescent taste for too much gilt and embossing! They are not something we see often in CRC, although The National Trusts libraries have a lot of them. And the book: The Cabinet, (Edinburgh, 1835).
