Our double decker tour bus crashed into a tree on the midnight - TopicsExpress

Our double decker tour bus crashed into a tree on the midnight trip back from the rugby last night, smashing the upstairs windows, resulting in a bunch of well oiled revellers stumbling around jovially to complete the last few blocks journey back to the hotel, putting a surreal cap on one of the most interesting (and fun) gigs of the year! The enormous bus driver stared ahead catatonically and remained uncommunicative throughout. After getting up at 4am to catch the early morning flight, we arrived at our breakfast gig at the posh Crown Plaza hotel in JHB, only to be confronted by a pile of sound and lighting gear which the tech supply company had dropped off, but neglected to set up, a duty unexpectedly left to me to complete in the 45 minutes before the guests arrive. After a rocking gig, we headed onto the ill-fated and very convivial bus headed towards our Ellis Park box overlooking the well used tryline. Gino was surprisingly well received given the distractions, performing various characters to great laughter and applause before that awesome game commenced. I am not too proud to admit that I shed an unexpected tear seeing Joost crippled and stumbling bravely around his former hallowed haunting ground, the crowd shouting Joost... Joost... and then finding myself transfixed by a game I have spent my life loathing, ecstatic as the dodgy penalty went our way for a change and Lambie put the ball through the posts. These are strange times indeed! The victory was celebrated by the Evolution of Dance and another couple of hours of revelry in which I was again honoured with the role of dj taking drunken requests. So here I am standing in an endless Sunday airport perfect storm queue caused by the conflicting Skouspel and Rugby frontal system phenomenons, reflecting on another bizarre 24 hour passage, this time without a drop of wine on which to place the blame. Did I mention that our bus crashed into a tree last night?
