Our justice system at work....heres a story of a New Jersey man who stole $460,000 from his city. The story is very weird to start with. He stole the money in quarters.....yep, quarters. That comes out to 1.8 million quarters. The theft was done over a period of 25 months. Apparently, he would go into a room where the quarters from parking meters were kept, fill his pockets with quarters then walk them out to his car. If you assume he worked a regular 9-5, M-F work week and adjusted for time off, vacation and other things, it means he took an average of about $1,500 per day....in quarters. The quarters were in a room where he was not supposed to have access to because it was not part of his job to deal with the quarters. He would then deposit those quarters into the bank. So, this guy goes into a room, that hes not supposed to have access to, every day. A room that one would think has controlled access because its where large amounts of money is stored. Fills his pockets with over a thousand dollars in quarters and walks out to his car, and no one seems to notice. Then goes to the back and deposit thousands of dollars in quarters and no one at the bank thought it was odd. He does this over a 25 month period and only gets caught because someone notices one day that $500 is missing. After all is said and done, hes only required to pay back $200,000 in a five year period and gets a job at his brothers company. His lawyer said “It was just temptation...he was in a room with a lot of money. He was raising a family. As a result, he thought he would supplement his income with that.” We put people in jail and sometimes prison over petty theft and shoplifting. People who are actually stealing for the sole purpose of trying to feed their family, yet this guy gets to go home and work for his family. Anyone that thinks our justice system has justice in it, is fooling themselves. This is not a race issue, before anyone tries to accuse me of that. Had this been Tyrone from the hood or Billy Bob from the trailer park, their asses would have been thrown under the prison.
