Over a decade ago, Amanda and Ryan first visited my bookshop as college students. Little did we know how lasting and enduring our friendship would be. A day after their graduation back in the US, they flew back to the Himalaya and made it their home. They started by building a footpath by carrying rocks on their backs to make a remote village accessible. They built a nursery school there and eventually, they built a small heath primary centre. All this while educating themselves and raising a family of four beautiful kids. Asher, their first child, has literally grown in front of our eyes - right from being a hazy image on the sonograph, to getting his first tel-maalish (Nepali mustard oil massage) from the Bookmans mum when he was just a few months old. Come August, Asher, who is now 8, will be cycling in tandem with his father from the plains of India to the Tibetan plateau, riding 400 miles, climb 15000 feet and cross the second highest pass in the world. Why? So that 5 youngsters from the village Asher is growing up in can go to medical school. We at Rachna Books love real-life stories. And we are proud to share this one: https://youtube/watch?v=SnQnTYp5tCI#t=27
