Over the past week during the CMA festivities in Nashville, ABC-TV (in addition to the CMA awards telecast) aired a special called The Fifteen Songs That Changed Country Music. The songs were picked by various country music insiders, experts and artists, although the types of criteria used in the selection process werent specifically identified. Since the show aired in conjunction with this weeks CMA activities, Im assuming that the Country Music Association sanctions and approves the list. Overall, it turned out pretty well. There were only a couple of selections that I disagreed with. But thats only one persons opinion, and Im certainly no expert. Seven of the fifteen tunes on the list have been featured before here on my Classic Country Music Stories page, and Im going to re-post them tonight, plus I now have a brand-new story on one of the songs, Merle Haggards Mama Tried, that Ill be putting on tonight as well. No videos will be attached, so you can share them if you wish. - JH
