Oxford - Funeral services for Mr. John M. Hanvey Jr., 63, of Oxford, will be on Saturday, November 30, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home and Crematory with the Rev. Ronnie Garret officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2013. Mr. Hanvey passed on November 26 at his residence surrounded by family. Mr. Hanvey is survived by his daughters, Kim Gay (Chris), Robin Adams (Randy), and Ginger Herren (Jackie); grandchildren, Carley Herren, Cole Herren, and Blaise Adams; siblings, Sarah Kelley (Doug) and Jeff Hanvey (Cheryl), and several nieces, nephews and very loyal cyclist friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, John M. Hanvey Sr. and Annie Elizabeth Brooks. Pallbearers will be family and friends with his cycling friends as honorary pallbearers. Mr. Hanvey was a retiree from Lee Brass where he worked for 42 years in the Quality Department. He really enjoyed boating and water skiing. He was an avid cyclist for over 30 years and completed the Cheaha Challenge 19 times. During his cycling career, he rode over the Smokey Mountains and helped raised money for Multiple Sclerosis over the years. He was a very humble, simple man who mastered anything he set his mind too. He had great integrity, a great work ethic and would help anyone in need. His greatest accomplishment in life was that he was a single father who raised three daughters. He was a very loving father, grandfather and friend and was a blessing to anyone who knew him. Flowers will be accepted but donations may be made to the Lou Gehrigs Association. A special thanks to Dr. V. Reddy, Dr. Terry Phillis, New Beacon Hospice and very special caregiver, Phyllis Rittenhouse - See more at: legacy/obituaries/annistonstar/obituary.aspx?n=john-m-hanvey-jr&pid=168202107#sthash.QfePottF.dpuf
