PALESTINE PD AND POSTAL INSPECTION SERVICE INVESTIGATE SHOOTING AT PALESTINE POST OFFICE On September 12, 2014, at approximately 1600 Hrs., Officers from the Palestine Police Department responded to the Palestine Post Office located at 1213 North Link (State Hwy 155 North) in reference to shots fired. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a male subject who advised police that his former girlfriend and cohabitant had shot at him. The victim told police that the female subject followed him to the Post Office, entered the lobby, and fired a single shot at him as he was about to leave. There were no reported injuries to the victim, any other citizens or any other Postal employees. The initial investigation indicates that the incident may be related to a recent break up. Although the female subject was reported as having fled the scene in a vehicle, she turned herself in short time later. The female was taken to Anderson County Jail, where she will be booked in on a charge of Aggravated Assault With A Deadly Weapon Family Violence. Aggravated Assault With A Deadly Weapon is a Second Degree Felony, which could result in a sentence of 2-20 years in the State Penitentiary, and/or a $10,000 fine. Members of the Palestine Police Department notified the U.S. Postal Inspectors, who responded to the scene. The Palestine Police Department will be working closely with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service throughout this investigation. Additional charges may follow as a result of their investigation. The name of the suspected party will not be released until after they have been arraigned by a magistrate.
