PART XXIV: Type II child/type I parent unit This is the last personality mix and the one of highest risk. By now you should very familiar with the type I parent. The type II child is quiet, inward, sensitive, usually sitting near its parents or on their lap, quietly sucking its thumb and holding onto its security blanket. It is self-reflective, end-oriented and very sensitive to success or failure. It has an inordinate need to know if its actions are appropriate and wishes only to hear a positive response. It is so sensitive to failure, it views its current actions or state as a failure if the parents frown, let alone confront the child for improper actions or behavior. This is a very special child, also, in that it dwells a lot on the reverberating content of its inner language & chatter and on the feelings that result from that chatter. It is deeply introverted, self-absorbed, anxious and hypervigilant. Most of its actions are appropriate, as are those of its peers, but its failures stand out in spite of its overwhelming successes. The bucket has a hole in it. It retains the perception & the awareness of failure for an inordinate time, which cause great emotional turmoil and mental turbulence. It has an overactive censorial preceptor, is tormented by self-reflection and is always inquiring about the propriety of its actions. In contrast to the type I child, it does not want to hear about its wrongdoings. Like the type III child, it is non- compliant, resistive and oppositional, but unlike the type III child these behaviors are minimal and are overpowered by the type I parent. This results in a state of capitulation and generation of feelings of failure. The child then identifies with failure and thinks, " I can never do anything right." " I am weak." " I am a failure." " I am unhappy." To be continued...
