PERSONAL REQUEST: College-Prep Technology Resources for Elementary - TopicsExpress

PERSONAL REQUEST: College-Prep Technology Resources for Elementary Education I take this opportunity to appeal to you on a personal note: I represent a local elementary school very close to my heart—Town & Country Lutheran School (T&C, tclschool) in the Arden/Arcade area of Northeast Sacramento. I/we at T&C approach you today for Ideas, Direction, & most especially, a Philanthropic Partnership to immediately implement an aggressive technology-focused program as we continue to serve the children of our region with nothing less the highest of academic excellence. Town & Country has successfully prepared K-8th students for college for fifty-five years. While other private schools, regionally and nationwide, have not survived changes in the education system and curriculum, Town & Country has remained a beacon of light for college-preparatory education, while building strong values and character in children to be properly equipped for the real world. Nonetheless, we have still experienced a dramatic decrease in enrollment since the beginning of the economic recession in 2008. Hence, leaders of the school and the attached church (which partially subsidizes the school) have hired a nationally-proven and recognized private school consultant, namely “Graceworks,” (gwmin) to guide us toward a self-sustaining plateau within the next two years, and beyond. Our consultant rated T&C at the 93rd percentile nationally for Parental Satisfaction. This fact is borne out when after a 20% increase in tuition ($1,000 per year), no students were lost to the tuition increase. The parents and students love the school, for clear reasons. As you can imagine, the enrollment decrease has been an alarming reality; however, we now find ourselves in an exciting phase as we aggressively embark to rebrand the school and fully embrace Technology’s significant influence and benefit, for the sake of the community around us and the impact it will have on our children’s futures. We wish to continue to foster an educational experience second to none for all children around us growing up now in this digital age. This feat has already been realized at “Amazing Grace” private elementary school in East Seattle, (agcschool.org). They have successfully transitioned from a typical small double-grade school to a technology-based school now at maximum capacity and forced turn away applicants. Each student family purchases a school-provided business-caliber laptop computer. For the students at Amazing Grace, textbooks are non-existent. Learning goals are based on the nationally known “Core Knowledge” program and implemented by teachers trained to use research based project learning. Middle grade students successfully complete college level courses and consistently test at post-high school levels. Students who use technology-based learning as their primary method of learning will be ready to face today’s employment environment with confidence. Collaborative project based learning will train them to succeed at a typical work place today. Thus, Town and Country is scouring the region for organizations and individuals who would like to partner with this regional school in an exciting venture to train each student in the opportunities that technology and research bring to learning.
