PIA-1/LA UNION: In connection with its ongoing efforts to improve the reliability of the North Luzon Transmission corridor, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines is set to commence its Bacnotan Tap Bacnotan Substation 230 kilovolt(kV) Transmission Line Upgrading Project. A three-kilometer line segment has been a weak spot in the grid due to its old wood pole structures that have not been replaced in almost 20 years, thus making the line vulnerable to damage, especially during typhoon season. The upgrading will replace 105 old wood poles with steel pole facilities, which will commence rehabilitation before the end of the year and be completed by 2nd half of 2014, NGCP said.
