PLANKTOBER: HOW NOT TO DO A PLANK! (Music Credit: Life in Technicolor by Coldplay) Alright yall! Planktober is AWESOME, but not so awesome if your points of alignment are out of wack! It could actually cause more damage than good! Here are a few things not to do.... * In the first video I allowed my back to sway, throwing my spine out of alignment. This causes disengagement of the core, which defeats the entire purpose of a plank. Think of zipping your belly button to kiss you spine and tucking your hips. From the crown of your head to your tailbone your spine should be in one continuous line. *In the second video I allowed my hips to sink, also knocking my spine out of alignment. This actually causes stress on the neck and crunching in the lower spine. You will also feel undue weight in your wrists when you do this. *In the third video Im almost there, BUT my weight is not distributed equally. I have more weight in my feet, I could actually shift forward evening the weight into my hands and pressing down through all ten fingertips, and reaching forward with the crown of my head toward the front of the room.
