PLEASE READ ADVICE AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FOODS TO EAT DURING RAMZAAN. FOODS TO EAT AT SEHRI TIME- complex carbohydrates and high fibre foods. These can include, porridge semolina, high bran food( cereals such as bran flakes, shredded wheat) Lentils, rice and beans are also good but foods with spice may cause indigestion as you will sleep shortly after Fruit is a must. All fruits contain high fibre. You cannot have too much fruit in your diet. It will also prevent constipation. Fluid is important. Try to drink as much water as possible. Try to avoid high caffeine drinks I.e coffee, coke etc as it makes you pass water more and making you more likely to get dehydrated. Caffeine is a diuretic. Coconut water is an excellent source of potassium and can reduce dehydration secret formula for ramzaan. FOODS TO EAT AT IFTARI TIME Start off with sweet natural sugar foods I.e fruit. Dates are the best source of energy and a sunnat So eat plenty. Dnt forget that figs, prunes and apricots are also a good source of energy and fibre. Try to rehydrate yourself in this short window. Plenty water and coconut water is advised. Refrain from fizzy drinks and high caffeine drinks. TRY to avoid fried foods that we all love. I know it hard but try!!! If you cnt then shallow fry instead of deep frying. Having samosas, rolls etc from oven is also very tasty and more healthy. Give it a go. Pastries are ok( as long as they are single layered). Dnt have too many. Have grilled chicken, meat and fish good source of protein. REMEMBER THIS IS A MEAL NOT A FEAST. Dnt over eat. It is a sunnat to eat less than what you can. Remember you have taraweeh to pray!!!!!!!! Due to the time between IFTARI and SEHRI being short it is advisable to eat just the required amount during IFTARI. That does not mean dnt eat, eat enough to give you fulfilment but still enough space that you could eat more if you had to. The problem with over eating at IFTARI is you will eat little at SEHRI time and you will struggle during the day. Find the balance that works for you.
