PLEASE READ: ☛ ☟ HELLO EVERYONE! THIS IS THE STATE OF JOB SEARCHING STILL IN THE 21ST CENTURY! COMPANIES, SUCH AS #KOHLS AND #STAPLES ARE STILL TREATING JOB SEEKERS AS SHEEP GOING TO THE SLAUGHTER. THEY WANT ALL YOUR PERSONAL AND SENSITIVE INFORMATION FIRST BEFORE OFFERING A PROMISE OF A POSITION. SOME STILL ASK FOR A SSAN OVER THE INTERNET! THIS IS MY RESPONSE TO THEM, JOB OR NO JOB THE DISRESPECT AND MANIPULATION OF WORKERS MUST STOP! DOES EVERYONE UNDERSTAND NOW WHY UNIONS ARE SO VERY IMPORTANT? COMPANIES FEEL THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO RUN US OVER WITH A MACK TRUCK AND WE ARE SUPP0SED TO LIKE IT AND GO TO THE SLAUGHTER. THIS IS THE 21ST CENTURY AND I URGE ANYONE LOOKING FOR A JOB NOT TO GIVE UP YOUR BARGAINING CHIP BEFORE OFFERED EMPLOYMENT, PLUS IT IS DANGEROUS AND IN SOME CASES, SUCH AS ASKING FOR MY BIRTH DATE IS ILLEGAL AND LUDICROUS. THAT OPENS THE DOOR TO AGE DISCRIMINATION. MANY COMPANIES HAVE CHANGED THIS PRACTICE BECAUSE THEY KNOW THAT GREAT PEOPLE ARE WALKING OUT THE DOOR BECAUSE THEY ARE INSULTED, PLUS, AND THIS IS IMPORTANT, WHEN IN AN INTERVIEW, I HAVE NOT MADE UP MY MIND IF I WANT TO WORK FOR THEM BASED ON THEIR HIRING PRACTICES AND CULTURE. I HAVE THAT RIGHT AND SO DOES EVERYONE ELSE. I DO NOT WANT MY INFO ON SOMEBODYS DESK WHERE ANYONE CAN SEE IT AND QUITE POSSIBLY STEAL THE INFORMATION FOR EITHER CREDIT OR IDENTITY THEFT. CREDIT AND IDENTITY THEFT IS REAL. IT HAPPENS EVERYDAY, EVEN AT COMPANIES. BEWARE AND FIGHT BACK! I KNOW THIS WORKS BECAUSE NOW, AFTER FUTURE EMPLOYEES REFUSE TO GIVE THIS INFORMATION MANY COMPANIES HAVE STOPPED THE PRACTICE COMPLETELY BECAUSE IT IS UNFAIR AND UNPRODUCTIVE. HERE IS MY CORRESPONDENCE TO #KOHLS SENT VIA THEIR WEBSITE: As your other page is not working properly and when I called we were disconnected, I have to write here. On last Friday I went to a group job interview at the #Kohls in San Diego CA near College Ave. The experience was a great one, however, I did not fill out the background check information because I had not been offered a position. When a representative named #Ruby, who also called for the interview, said they needed that information, I told them I would be happy to provide that information upon a promise of employment. As I do not work for the company I cannot be sure that my sensitive information would be safeguarded, plus why would I do that? What would be in it for me? You know everything about me, which is good, but I get nothing in return. Also, this is the 21st Century and because of identity and credit theft, I no longer write any of my pertinent information down or use it over the internet. Things are changing, thank goodness, and companies understand that this is an unsafe practice. You and Staples are part of the last hold outs which means that a good deal of great people are choosing not to work for the company because of this kind of disrespect. This policy must change immediately. Job seekers no longer feel desperate or needy and just give companies anything they want just to get a job, which usually ends with companies having all my information and I and many others still do not get the job. What would be my incentive to continually do that? Nothing! Job-seekers are tired of being treated like we do not matter. We are not machines, we are people and deserve respect. Companies can check on your job record without having a SSAN, or Birth date (highly illegal especially when part of a job application-Ageism- and unacceptable) and then had the nerve to ask for my drivers license. For what? I think not. My personal information is also my bargaining chip before hired. Again I have no problem giving the information, except my drivers license number, once a promise to hire is given and accepted. That is the professional way to handle negotiations. Also, just because I am in an interview does not mean once I learn more about the company, that I would even want to work for them. I am on the same footing as the company. I am a company of one and my needs are as important as yours. WE are no longer sheep going to the slaughter. WE demand more from companies in the same manner you demand certain skills etc. and more from us with minimal pay by the way. This is why unions are so very important. And it is coming to a retail store near you. Get ready! This is the 21st Century #Kohls and these old outdated manipulative practices do not work anymore. WE are no longer afraid. I suggest you blast into the 21st Century or get left behind. Thank you for your time. Bridgett Hollowell
