PREMIER DIVISION this week saw WILNECOTE RED LION roar to the top of the league when taking maximum points in their entertaining game with AFC BOLEHALL . With two good footballing sides who try to play the right way the Lion went ahead early on with a goal from their marksman Adam DELANEY whose been in fine form of late . The Lion were then pressing and scored again with a goal from Ross KINIGHT making it 2-0 . Bolehall were creating chances themselves and were unlucky not to go in at half time with a goal to their name but Red Lion with some great saves from man of the match Mark Phillips were in no mood to surrender their lead . The second half started brightly with both teams looking for that important goal and as the game went on the Lion scored what was to be the killer goal from Adam DELANEY making it 3-0 . For all their efforts Bolehall eventually made a consolation goal in the last minute through Tim PRESCOTT to finish the game at 3-1 and the win moved an ever improving Wilnecote Red Lion to the top of the shop …. WOOD END SPORTS themselves are in fine free scoring form of late and this week was no different as they faced WILNECOTE GLOBE and showed them no mercy at all and hit them for double figures in the process . Wood End gave Globe no chance and the run around playing total football that Wilnecote Globe just couldnt contend with . Even though Wilnecote Globe never gave up and battled for the entire match Wood End were simply just to good for their opponents . A master-class in finishing from Dean RATHBONE saw him grab FIVE goals and BRENNAN , YONWIN , TAYLOR , FALLEN all getting themselves on the score sheet , the tenth was an OG as Wood End finished comfortably winning 10-0 ….. DIVISION 1 and DUG OUT battled bravely and with more luck could have won their game this weekend against one of the top sides in the league WILNECOTE WMC . A calamitous mistake by the Dug Out keeper resulted in Wilnecote taking the lead , thinking the ball was going dead the ball stayed in play and the Wilnecote striker stroked it goalwards before a hashed clearance fell for DEVLIN to stroke home . Dug Out came back and deserved their equaliser as DAVIS smashed home a free kick . The second half was end to end and a delightful chip from CHAPMAN put Dug Out 2-1 up and things were looking up as they went in search of a third goal and from an attack the ball was punted up field and again calamity at the back saw the Dug Out full back and his keeper get tangled up and HADDOCK rolled into an empty net making it 2-2 . It was still anyone’s game and was end to end but Wilnecote got a third when a good old fashioned goalmouth melee resulted in them taking the lead through DEVLIN . Dug Out tried in vein for a way back into the game and after losing the ball they gifted Wilnecote goal number four as DEVLIN completed his hatrick and the game ended 4-2 in Wilnecotes favour ….. DIVISION 2 also saw only one game as OFFICE met bottom of the table COTTAGE FARM RANGERS that ended with Office winning 3-2 . Real Belgrave had the better of the opening chances and went ahead after twenty minutes through a deflected effort. . Office pulled one back before the break from a long range Jase DHESI free kick . The second half Belgrave went ahead again after an easy penalty decision , only for Jase DHESI to equalise for a second time with a curling left foot strike . As the game came to a close Belgrave snatched the points after a long ball made its way through which was finished off neatly ….. DIVISION 3 saw bottom of the table clash as GATE INN played host to COTON ARMS with both teams desperately needing the three points at stake . After a very difficult start to the season Coton Arms finally got a win under their belt and it was thoroughly deserved . The game started evenly with Gate probably just shading the first fifteen minutes of possession . However it was Coton who had the first real opportunity with a twenty yard drive from Spencer Steward crashing off the bar , they then began to dominate and the break through came from a wonderfully worked goal that found Greg ELTON free to head in from eight yards out . A minute later it was 2-0 , a long ball up field found the Gate back four sleeping and STEWARD found himself alone in the box , with nobody up in support he drilled in low from an acute angle to make it 2-0 . In the second half Gate showed a little more fight as they tried desperately to get a goal back , knowing one goal may turn into three as had happened before for the Coton Arms in recent weeks , but the back five of Coton was solid and only long range efforts were being mustered up from the home team . A golden chance soon fell to the feet of Steward who missed a one on one with the keeper saving well . The home team came closest in the dying minutes of the game as a shot came off the post but was then swept clear and it finished 2-0 …. It was a morning to forget for SPORTS BAR ATHLETIC who were absolutely walloped by ST. JOHNS in what was a must not lose game . Sports Bar needed to start strongly and take the game to the opposition but found themselves 1-0 down very early on after a speculative effort from Ellis CARDELL dipped in from long range over Adam Ward . After that the goals crashed in and it was 4-0 game over by half time it seemed for Sports Bar . Harley BAKER converting a penalty , Harry BEALE smashing one in from twenty five yards out , Corey RICHARDSON getting in on the goal fest by unleashing an unstoppable curling effort into the net . The second half saw a spark of a comeback from Sports Bar who pulled the score back to 5-2 thanks to Rikki MADDOCKS and Danny CROOT . Adam Gould then missed chances to make it 5-3 and turn the heat up on St. Johns who looked a little bit panicked in this spell , however they turned it on again and scored several goals in quick succession to record a pretty embarrassing 8-2 scoreline for the hosts . Harley BAKER tapped in from six yards before completing his hatrick after a mazy run saw him round the keeper and roll the ball in , then Corey RICHARDSON smacked in a free kick from thirty yards before also completing his hatrick for the morning with a fine solo goal for the game to end 8-2 . All in all it was a day to forget for Sports Bar who now find themselves all but out of the promotion race .... EDINGALE SWIFTS put in easily their worst display of the season and were well beaten by WARTON CLUB this week . The game started quite evenly for the first twenty minutes with niggly little tackles stopping the game from flowing . Warton took the lead when a cross was met at the same time by the striker CARTER as it was Edingale keeper Danny Bowles . The ball went in and both players stayed down . The goal was given and after treatment to both players the game continued . Edingale were level almost immediately . Bowless long goal kick bounced twice and Kieran CHERRIE ghosted in behind the defence and lobbed the keeper . Edingale grew with the goal and could have gone 2-1 up but the Warton keeper smothered from Matt Fallon and Cherrie and Andrew Stewart-Jones both had efforts wide . Warton re-took the lead after thirty five minutes . A half clearance was scuffed into the bottom corner by CARTER and it was 3-1 just after half time when a header from a corner was saved but the rebound smashed in from four yards by POINTON . It became 4-1 when a long ball was missed by the Swifts defence and Wartons Dillan DAY finished then it was 5-1 with a penalty that nobody on or off the pitch , apart from the Referee knew what it was for but CARTER wasnt complaining anyway as he tucked away his hatrick goal . The goal of the game , a good move and shot from the edge of the box saw Warton lead 6-1 . Swifts did have a half chances to reduce the scoreline . Cherrie tried a chip from the touchline with the keeper stranded and Adam Cain and Stewart-Jones both couldnt get enough on a great Jamie Dodd cross . However Edingale were beaten by much the better side on the day and will need to show character to bounce back from two heavy defeats in consecutive weeks now …. DIVISION 4 and STONYDELPH managed a 5-3 win over an ever improving FAZELEY TOWN RESERVES . Fazeley Town took the lead early in the first half when the Stonydelph defence were caught napping from a throw in and the Fazeley striker was able to turn inside the box and square the ball to an onrushing team mate at the back post completely unmarked to make it 1-0 . Fazeley Town soon doubled their lead when Mark Bashford deflected the ball past his goalkeper when attempting to block a shot after his team mates were again caught napping to make it 2-0 . With only minutes remaining of the first half Stonydelph pulled a goal back when David Hewins played the ball through to Richard MATTISON on the left hand side who placed his shot under the onrushing goalkeeper to make it 2-1 at half time . Stonydelph upped their game second half and were soon on level terms from a corner , Adam Leavolds corner to the near post was flicked in by the head of David HEWINS to make it 2-2 .With Stonydelph pushing for the lead they fell behind again with a quick Fazeley Town counter attack from a Stonydelph corner , Fazeley Town attacked down the right hand side and when the ball was crossed into the box Kevin Turner turned the cross into his own net to make it 3-2 to Fazeley . Stonydelph soon equalised when Richard Mattison crossed the ball from the left hand side to the head of débutante Peter LUTWYCHE who flicked his header past the goalkeeper into the far corner to again level the scores 3-3 . Stonydelph now dominating the game took the lead for the first time in the match when Richard Mattison was brought down in the area , David HEWINS stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to score his second of the game . David HEWINS then bagged his hat-trick and secured the win for Stonydelph when a sloppy throw in from the Fazeley Town defender was intercepted by Hewins and he ran through one on one and slotted the ball past the goalkeeper into the bottom corner with his left foot for the perfect hat-trick . In truth Stonydelph could and should have won more comfortably with a mixture of good goalkeeping from the Fazeley Town goalkeeper and some poor finishing from David Hewins ( who missed 5 or 6 one on ones ) as well as two stone wall penaltys turned down .... MERCIAN met GLASCOTE SWIFTS and Mercian were looking for their third win on the trot but obviously Glascote had better ideas and had Mercian on the backfoot straight away with Glascote giving everything and when a strike deflected off Tom Nicholls to just skip over the top of the Mercian keeper Glascote deservedly took the lead through T.ROSE . Mercian quickly fired back with Josh HAWKINS scoring but then Glascote hit back again with a goal this time from A. ROSE for a 2-1 lead at the break . The second half both teams try hard and it looked like Glascote were taking the points until HAWKINS scored an equaliser . Both sides for the last ten minutes went hard at it in search of a winning goal but it never came and the game ended all square at 2-2 ….. POLESWORTH SPORTS & SOCIAL were involved in a competitive game from start to finish that saw Polesworth have two players sent off against DYNAMO SPORTS BAR . Dynamos made a mistake at the back for Polesworth to take the lead early on through BECKETT . Dynamos came roaring back to earn a penalty soon after . This inspired Dynamos to play some good build up play in the end winning 5-2 . Polesworths other goal being scored by BRADSHAW …. League leaders TWO GATES UNITED RESERVES recorded a 5-2 win over NEWTON ALLIANCE thanks to goals from JONES , CARDUS , FLETCHER and a brace from COLES . Newton went into this game with an under strength back line and no goalkeeper , in the first half it showed as well as Two Gates peppered the Newton goal , putting a lot of pressure on the defence and goalkeeper scoring five in the first half . The referee had a great game getting each decision he made spot on including a diabolical challenge on Newton Alliances stand in goalie who five minutes after the challenge had to be substituted . A deserved red card for the forward involved in the incident . Newton Alliance fought back slightly though with a great second half team performance scoring two stunning goals from Luke HARRIS .... E.S GEORGE MEMORIAL CUP action saw Premier Division APPLEBY MAGNA take on Division 3s FC WHITE LION who learned a valuable lesson at Appleby in this fixture . In the first half White Lion tried to defend and were undone by Appleby playing flowing football and were soon 4-0 down but after the break , lead by Ben Minishull they decided to try and take the ball to Appleby and play some football which Appleby will let you do . This paid off and the second half was very competitive end to end football and to cap it off they managed to get a goal back through WEATHERSTONE . However as their young legs tired they conceded two more goals but White Lion ought to be inspired by their second half performance . Once again only good words coming from the losing opposition on how Appleby conduct themselves whilst winning games on paper they should , and their sportsmanship and to their credit how they respect the lower league sides . Appleby scorers for their passage into the next round were TURNER with a hatrick , STEVENSON , JORDAN and COLEMAN …. Division 1s HURLEY UNITED travelled to MAD DOG TATTOO FC from the league below and were given the run around during the first half of this fixture by the lower league opposition . Hurley rarely got out of their own half during the first forty five minutes but alls Mad Dog had to show for their far superior performance was a slender goal advantage . The goal was of the highest quality and came straight from the training ground as Hales . Cuffe and HEATON combined to score a cheeky free kick . Whilst everybody was waiting for an effort on goal Heaton made a cheeky run that saw Hales and Cuffe combine to roll the ball into his path to present a one on one chance that Heaton was never going to miss placing his effort in the bottom right hand corner . Mad Dogs should have had a much more comfortable lead at the break and this would come back to haunt them in the second half as Hurley seemed to step up a gear and put Mad Dog Tattoo on the back foot and look more of an attacking threat and Hurley chances kept coming and was only a matter of time before they found the net , but on the flip side Mad Dogs were still looking very dangerous going forward themselves and had chances to put the game to bed but chances missed proved costly as Hurley deservedly equalised when a ball up top was mis judged by the Mad Dog centre half who failed to control the ball allowing it to get caught up in his feet where D. SEARS robbed him of possession and fired home from ten yards to draw the game level with twenty minutes remaining . From here on in both sides had chances to win the game and with Mad Dog introducing hot-shot Dave Gadsby for the last ten minutes from the bench they posed a much greater attacking threat but it ended 1-1 and extra time was needed . Unfortunately the game was marred by a nasty injury to young Paul Kelly of Hurley in the first minute of extra time who whilst clearing the ball popped his knee out and went down in agony and the game was halted as emergency medical help was sought . After almost an hour of waiting for an ambulance to arrive the decision was made to move the game and continue on the next pitch at Anker Valley as the injured lad was comfortable and happy for the game to continue , which wasnt to the satisfaction of a few Hurley players who were looking to take the game straight to penalties after such a delay but not one Mad Dog player/supporter or manager wanted this and persevered to get the game finished in the right manner and this it did on the pitch next door kicking off extra time at almost 1-30 pm . The first half of extra time saw both sides have a couple of half decent chances to go in front that neither took so it remained all square after the first fifteen minutes . The second half of extra time exploded into action and it was a goal flurry as goals flew in virtually every other minute . Hurley took the lead through a well taken goal from GLADDERS inside the first five minutes but whilst still celebrating their goal Mad Dog kicked off and went straight down the other end and Callum FREWIN scored to equalise within thirty seconds of going behind . The goal seemed to spur on every Mad Dog player and Hurley kicked off again to re start play and were robbed of possession by Will Tamplin who played a lovely ball to the feet of GADSBY on the edge of the box who rolled his marker clean out to turn in one on one on goal and fire in from fifteen yards an absolute screamer that no keeper in the world would of saved and within two minutes Mad Dog Tattoo had been 2-1 down to now lead 3-2 . The game as a contest was over two minutes later when Mad Dog scored again to lead 4-2 , this time TAMPLIN getting on the scoresheet and then Mad Dogs turned on the samba football as Hurleys heads had gone to stroke the ball around and score twice more before the final whistle , GADSBY adding his second from a back post header and FREWIN also adding his second of the morning to complete a great 6-2 victory for the underdogs Mad Dogs …... In the ELLISION ROSE BOWL CUP , FC BONDS of Division 1 welcomed Division 2s unbeaten all season league leaders ONE STOP SUPPLEMENTS to their place and Bonds will feel very disappointed with the end result after dominating most of the game only for a mistake in the last ten minutes by Bonds that let One Stops ROBERTS find the back of the net . However with five minutes left Bonds striker Lynd had his shot cleared off the line by the One Stop defenders hand only for the penalty to be turned around and some how end up as a One Stop free kick much to the dismay of Bonds players . So One Stop continue their unbeaten start to the season but this week had to ride their luck to keep their unbeaten run going ….. Division 3s WILNECOTE QUEENS HEAD march through to the next round after overcoming a resilient VAULTS team two Divisions higher than themselves. Vaults put Queens under pressure early on without creating a clear chance , though shouts for a penalty went unheard by the referee . Queens then started to get their foot on the ball and after some neat passing Hill was up ended in the box . This gifted HORTON an early chance to put the Queens 1-0 up and he duly obliged , slotting home with the spot kick . Queens used this to their advantage and began to dominate play , this led to Vaults conceding a corner , where ROBERTS nodded home at the back post . Vaults had their share of chances but couldnt find that clinical finish . The second half continued in the same manner as both team sought goals , it was Queens who notched next though as Hill fed ONIONS on the edge of the box who beat the defender before finding the back of the net for 3-0 . Queens then took their foot off the gas and this told as Vaults went for broke . Chance after chance went by before Vaults midfielder John BARRON turned sharply on the edge of the Queens area , and struck a shot directly to the corner of the goal making it 3-1 . This resurgence didnt last long however as Queens soon replied through EVANS , Onions playing him in down the channel and with the keeper to beat he did so gleefully making it 4-1 Queens at the final whistle .... LEAGUE CHALLENGE CUP and DRAYTON BASSETT booked themselves a spot in the next round when beating COTTAGE FARM RANGERS 4-1 thanks to goals from Alan BEVAN , Dean CORDELL , Leon MaCKENZIE and Adam CLARK . Both sides made a lively start with end to end action but it was Bassett who took the lead after a shot from the right side of the area nestled in the top corner . The game continued in an even manner with both sides creating chances but it was Drayton Bassett who were the more clinical and mid-way through the second half had a three goal lead to show for their efforts . Cottage Farm hit back through a fine finish from Paul ZARANCHA but with the home side throwing bodies forward, they were caught out on the counter attack and the game finished 4-1 to Bassett ….. The STUDIO played well in a game they narrowly lost where finishing let them down again against fellow Premier Division opponents ROYAL OAK KINGSBURY . The first half saw Studio have more chances at goal but they were not clinical but Oak were with one and led at the break 1-0 through CARR . Second half and Studio had to weather a storm before controlling the game but again being wasteful in front of goal . Oaks CARR then added a second in the final minute as Studio pushed for an equaliser an the game ended 2-0 to Oak ….. LEAGUE CHALLENGE TROPHY saw HURLEY KINGS of Division 4 beat SWIFTS from the league above by 2-0 to go through into the next round …...
