PRESS RELEASE: The Nigeria union of journalists, NUJ Ondo state council has condemned incessant public assault on journalists in recent time by security agents. It also frowned at an assault on the union General Secretary Leke Adegbite by a traffic warden at Oja Oba in Akure. In a statement, the unions state chairman Mr James Sowole expressed disappointment in the traffic official Kehinde Omokeye who torn the shirt of the journalist over minor misunderstanding. The Union cautioned that it would no longer take unwarranted attacks on any media practitioner in the state. NUJ commended the timely intervention of some top officers at the Adivision police station, Akure in resolving the matter. The statement pleads with security operatives to treat journalists with dignity especially as 2015 general elections is fast approaching.
