PROACTIVE SPIRITUALITY: People tend to pray the most when they are in trouble. No matter how spiritually evolved we may think of ourselves, we all do this in one way or another. When things go wrong, we start to reassess our lives. We decide to start making every day count, to share more with our loved ones, and to dedicate ourselves to a life led by spiritual principles. This is what is my father and teacher, Rav Berg, would often refer to as Reactive Spirituality. In fact, it may be Reactive Spirituality that brought you to a spiritual path in the first place. Maybe you were going through a rough time and needed some guidance, or maybe you felt a certain emptiness, a longing for something more. Eventually, to remain on a spiritual path, it is essential to make the switch to Proactive Spirituality. We don’t have to wait for things to go wrong in our life to push us to change. We don’t need the wake-up calls to start taking action. We don’t want a life of ups and downs, of good days and bad days, of extreme highs followed by crashing lows. It is 100% possible to have each day be a little better than the last, to be a little stronger today than we were yesterday and a little closer to ultimate fulfillment. When things are going well for us, we can use that energy and put it towards doing good things for others. When life is great, this is the time we most want to commit to change and personal growth, to stepping out of our comfort zone and loving our neighbor more unconditionally. This is the path of Proactive Spirituality. It is human nature that within our darkest hours we would seek the Light, but it is what we do in the times we feel the Light that will carry us through our darkest hours. #yehuda_berg
