Pacquiao added yet another feather to his cap with his latest accomplishment with the opening of his Habitat for Humanity Philippines village in Sarangani. The eight-division world champion boxer and playing-coach of the Kia Sorento in the Philippine Basketball Association took time off his busy schedule to formally open the “Pacman-Tata Yap Ville” tenement. In his birthday treat to the townsfolk of Barangay Tango in the Glan municipality on December 20, 2014, he turned over more than 100 houses to their respective home partners in order for them to live better in their own sanctuary. In addition to the turnover, Pacquiao also led the groundbreaking ceremony of the planned multipurpose hall, and extended his commitment to purchase more land in order to build 105 additional homes to serve more families in need. The incumbent Sarangani Province representative is no stranger to hardships in life, as he worked his way out of poverty through the sport of boxing and rose to stardom by winning title after title to cement his place as a future boxing Hall-of-Famer. As he moved higher and higher up the rungs of popularity—entering the realm of show-business, politics, basketball and others—Pacquiao never failed to remember to help out those who were once like him and struggled to get by in life. Pacquiao became a “hero ambassador” of Habitat For Humanity Philippines in 2011, with the completion of the first phase of the Pacman-Tata Yap Ville settlement being the first of the many planned homes for low-income families in the province. This recent endeavor joined the many others of Pacquiao’s advocacies, including the training and development of future Filipino boxers, as well as the promotion of up-and-coming fighters.
