Padraig Pearses last farewell. Through long generations, the Irish nation has commemorated its fallen heroes through poetry and song. This beautiful and moving ballad by The Barleycorn tells the story of Padraig Pearses last letter to his mother. He asks her to pass on his farewell wishes to his sister Margaret and other family members. In the last verse he asks his brother, Willie, who is also imprisoned in Kilmainham, to look after them all when he (Willie) is released from prison. Padraig Pearse was executed on May 3rd, 1916. When he wrote this letter he did not know that his brother, Willie, who was not a leader in the Rising was to be executed the following day - simply because he shared his brothers name.
