Pakistan has been ranked among the top 10 ’failed states’ in the world. Surprisingly it is worse than Afghanistan and worst African countries also. This is revealed in a new world survey released last week. Foreign Policy magazine’s 2nd annual index of failed states gives a horror picture of South Asia. Apart from India four other South Asian countries are ranked like this Berma (18th), Bangladesh(19th), Nepal(20th) and Sri Lanka(25th). Thus all neighborhoods of India are in alarming condition that may put India in trouble. There are 12 indicators which are being used for this survey. They are as following F1 - Mounting Demographic Pressures F2 - Massive Movement of Refugees and IDPs F3 - Legacy of Vengeance - Seeking Group Grievance F4 - Chronic and Sustained Human Flight F5 - Uneven Economic Development along Group Lines F6 - Sharp and/or Severe Economic Decline F7 - Criminalization or Delegitimization of the State F8 - Progressive Deterioration of Public Services F9 - Widespread Violation of Human Rights F10 - Security Apparatus as ’’State within a State’’ F11 - Rise of Factionalized Elites F12 - Intervention of Other States or External Actors Pakistan has failed in all most all the factors. It has failed on political, army and social factors but shown a slight better condition on economic factors. Socially Pakistan is very unstable because of their most of the population is Muslim. But there is tensions between the majority Sunni (77%) and minority Shia (20%), which always leads to violence. There are also reports of violence between Muslims and Christian and Hindu groups. Top Ten unstable countries in world are given below alongwith their respective scores 1 Sudan 112.3 2 DRC 110.1 3 Cote d’Ivoire 109.2 4 Iraq 109 5 Zimbabwe 108.9 6 Chad 105.9 7 Somalia 105.9 8 Haiti 104.6 9 Pakistan 103.1 10 Afghanistan 99.8 Among all its neighbors India is the only country which has improved its condition which is good for us. On the other hand Pakistan performance has gone bad to worse. Surprisingly countries like Liberia, North Korea, Ethiopia, Bangladesh and Rwanda are rated more stable than Pakistan. The survey reveals that Pakistan is not able to control its tribal areas, where there is civil war plus terrorism is growing. The 2005 earthquake has also put Pakistan on back foot.
