Parent(s) We are responsible for teaching Scripture to our children Deuteronomy 6:4-9 Teach your children to obey God 4. Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: * Monotheism-belief in only one God-was a distinctive feature of Hebrew religion. Many ancient religions believed in many gods. But the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is the God of the whole earth, the only true God. This was an important insight for the nation of Israel, because they were about to enter a land filled with people who believed in many gods. Both then and today, there are people who prefer to place their trust in many different gods. But the day is coming when God will be recognized as the only one. He will be the King over all the earth (Zechariah 14:9). 5. and thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. 6. And these words, which I command thee this day , shall be in thine heart: 7. and thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. 8. And thou shalt bind them from a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. 9.And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates. * This passage is said to be the central theme of Deuteronomy. It sets a pattern that helps us relate the Word of God to our daily lives. We are to love God, think constantly about his commandments, teach his commandments to our/his children, and live our daily lives by the guidelines in his Word. God emphasized the importance of parents teaching the Bible to their children. The church and Christian schools cannot be used to escape from this responsibility. The Bible provides so many opportunities for object lessons and practical teaching that it would be a shame to study it only one day a week. Eternal truths are most effectively learned in the loving environment of a God-fearing home. Instructing our children in faith The Hebrews were extremely successful at making religion an integral part of life. The reason for their success was that religious education was life-oriented., not information-oriented. They used the context of daily life to teach about God. The key to teaching your children to love God is stated simply and clearly in these verses. If you want your children to follow God, you must make God apart of your everyday life. You must teach your children to see God in all aspects of life, not just those that are church related. Psalm 22:30-31 A prayer that carries us from great suffering to great joy. (David) 30. A seed ( posterity; accounted to the LORD for a: told of the LORD to the next) shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the LORD for a generation. 31. They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this. * If we want future generations to know about Gods wonders and miracles, we must teach them to our children. if we want our children to serve the LORD they must hear about him from us. It is not enough to rely on the church or those with more knowledge to provide all their Christian education. We must reinforce the lessons of Scripture in the home. Unborn generations are depending on our faithfulness today. As we teach our children about the Lord, so they will teach their children and their childrens children. If we fail to tell our children about the Lord, we may well be breaking the chain of Gods influence in generations to come. We must view our children and all the young people we meet as Gods future leaders. If we are faithful in opportunities today, we may well be affecting the future. Matthew 18:12-14 Jesus warns about looking down on others 12. How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray? 13. And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went astray. 14. Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one these little ones should perish. Be encourage to trust God, His Word (Jesus Christ), and His Holy Spirit to teach your children the Word of God. Knowing with confidence in the Holy Spirits guidance will lead your family into relationship with Jesus Christ. Taking back what the enemy has stolen Gods children, one house hold at a time! #2FOCUS #WD4GP #4THEKINGDOM Always
