Part 1 of a new 5 part series - check back next week for Part 2! Question: Who can publish in PNAS? Do I need to have a connection to an NAS member? Answer: Anybody can publish in PNAS as a “Direct Submission” and you don’t need a connection to an NAS member. In fact, 95% of submitted research papers are Direct Submissions. As a Direct Submission author, you will be asked to name an NAS member who might be suitable to handle your paper—which is like suggesting referees in any other journal—and you don’t need to know the member to suggest them. The difference with PNAS is that an NAS Editorial Board member always makes the final decision on your paper rather than a staff editor. For more information, check out our new FAQs for authors and other resources explaining our review process: pnas.org/site/authors/authorfaq.xhtml.
