Part of accepting mans fallibility and accepting the rule of law - TopicsExpress

Part of accepting mans fallibility and accepting the rule of law in the context of a free society is accepting that sometimes the law is wrong, and that in those instances the proper procedure is to use the legal process to change the law. There are exceptions to this rule when a law is so fundamentally evil and incompatible with a rights respecting society - such as slavery, or the Nuremberg Laws - where going outside the legal process becomes acceptable if not necessary. But such emergencies dont alter the general rule, which is that vigilantism is anarchy. This is true whether practiced by private citizens, or by the President. The President may not under the guise of amnesty or the Pardon Power change laws unilaterally without the consent of Congress. Whether you agree with the Presidents underlying goal or policy change or not, such a usurpation is a frontal assault on the rule of law and on our constitutional system. It is anarchism, in the specific sense described by Ayn Rand: anarchy preceding a dictator. It should be opposed by all good people.
