Party affiliation is a personal choice. One can choose one of the two large parties, Democrat or Republican or the less defined Independent or NPA (No Party Affiliation). The latter two limits ones choices and voting opportunities in Primary Elections where the closed system is used. In the closed system one can only vote for candidates in the party they are affiliated with. Do what one wants, but get involved wherever one can.
