Patience Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. James 1:19-20 (KJV) --- Brought to you by In The Word Daily James 1:19-20 Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak - That is, primarily, to hear God; to listen to instruction. we are to be more ready to hear than to speak. We are to be disposed to learn always, and from any source. It is appropriate to be learners rather than instructors. Slow to wrath - That is, we are to govern and restrain our temper. We are not to give indulgence to excited and angry passions. And if we are to govern our tongues, we must govern our passions. The worst thing we can bring to any dispute is anger. Do not be rash with your mouth, And let not your heart utter anything hastily before God. Ecclesiastes 5:2 In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise.
