Patricia Hasslebeck mailed me re her superb book of photographs we discussed In Conversation last Wednesday, in particular one historic pic of the Barrett’s of Ballyduff. Have You any information on this?? Hi Weeshie, Many, many thanks for having me in Conversation last Wednesday evening...It was a joy to have the opportunity to link into my grandfathers Kerry connection. I have never been made to feel so at home” in a studio... As promised I am sending on a little more about the Hamill /Barrett image. I have met the daughter of one of the triplets in the course of my research..She is a mine of information and I am sure she would be delighted to talk to you about the family if you feel it would be helpful for your own work .I can arrange that if you would like. Best Wishes, Patricia Const Hamill 3 children Barracks Photo:. 21-2-1913 O’Briensbridge Co.Clare Const. Catherine died in 1967 age 84. Catherine Hamill’s brother Edmond Barrett holds a unique sporting record; he is the only man to have won an all Ireland Senior Hurling Medal and an Olympic Gold Medal. He won the hurling medal with London in 1901 and the Olympic Medal as part of the British tug of war team in 1908 Olympics. Barrett also played in the 1902 Hurling Final which London lost. It is interesting to note that when Barrett won his All Ireland medal he was a member of the London Metropolitan Police who were/were not subject to the GAA ban on British Military and Police.
