Pemberton Custody with US Gov’t, Insists Malacañang Malacañang yesterday asserted that the custody of “transgender slay case” suspect United States (US) Marine Private First Class Joseph Scott Pemberton will be with the United States government. According to Gabriela Rep. Luzviminda Ilagan, the Philippine government would have difficulty in taking custody of Pemberton who is tagged in the killing of Jeffrey Laude. Ilagan said that the Scott issue is similar situation with the alleged Nicole’s rape case where the country was taken for a ride in seeking justice for the victim. “I am not confident of taking him (Pemberton) in our custody. Based on the Nicole experience, the Philippine government is held hostage to the lopsided and unjust provisions of the VFA (Visiting Forces Agreement).
